Kambo FAQS
What is Kambo?
Kambo is a secretion from the back of a frog called the Phyllomedusar Bicolour found deep in the amazonian rainforest. Despite many myths Kambo is not a toxin or venom. It is more likely to be the frogs protective layer from the sun. Kambo has been used for generations by many tribes for things such as spiritual awareness, hunting and even for attraction.
How is Kambo applied?
Kambo is usually applied to the arm or leg through 'gates' which are effectively small surface layer burns applied using a very hot stick similar to an insense stick. This allows the medicine to enter your lymphatic system quickly. Most people describe the aplication as feeling like small scratches and a tongling feeling when the medicine is applied.
Is there any sciencific evidence for Kambo?
Whilst there has been very limited case studies or research on Kambo as a treatment itself; there has been a lot of research and studies into the individual peptides that Kambo has with it. In fact there are over 70 Bioactive neuropeptides and biopeptides. Many of which have now been synthesised in labatories and have had research done on them. Some of the peptides that show promising results are:
Deltorphin and Dermorphin - Opioid peptides. Dermorphin provides pain relief upto 40 times more potent that Morphine with no addictive qualities. Deltorphin has shown potential for being a non addictive analgesics.
Sauvagine - Modulates the body's stress response. Reducing cortisol levels and promoting relaxation
Dermaseptins: A family of antimicrobial peptides, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, fungi and even cancer cells. Dermaseptin B2 has shown promising tumour reducing qualities.
Caerulein - Promotes smooth muscle contraction aiding digestion and toxin elimination.
What are the benefits to Kambo?
People choose to go through a Kambo treatment for many different reasons. This can be for a physical cleanse, releasing toxins and having a 'reset' or it can be for deep inner healing. Aiding them to release blocked and stored traumas within the body. Everyone is unique. Kambo has been known to help in the recovery of addictions, trauma, long term chronic illness, stress, digestion or hormone regulation and much more.
Is it safe?
Kambo has an incredibly good safety record. However it is important that it is administered by a trained professional. There are many things to consider including if a client is suitable for a treatment. A good practicioner will go through your medical history with you extensively. They will provide very clear instructions for the preparation before treatment including food and water intake guidelines. Not everyone is suitable for Kambo and those with heart conditions or previous strokes should certainly not be offered treatment.
Korrin is trained through the Kambo Practicioner's Alliance. The training is extensive and means she also has the support of a communitu of professionals that have been serving the medicine for over ten years within the UK
Is it ethical?
Our Medicine is sourced directly from the Matses tribe. This tribe have been working with the medicine for generations. They go into the forest to collect from wild frogs and release the frogs with love immediately after collection which happens in minutes. No frogs are harmed during the process. Buying from the Matses directly keeps their only source of income going, allows them to build their community and keep the rainforest around them protected. Unfortunately not all Kambo is sourced int his way but our commitment is always ethical and respectful medicine with no compromises.
What should I expect a Treatment to feel like?
Kambo is a purging medicine and can be quite intense but is a rapid process. Once the medicine is applied you will likely feel hot, have an increased heart rate and sensations around your throat. This will pass within a few minutes and you will then very likely feel nauseous. Everyone processes Kambo differently but Korrin will stay with you throughout the process and assist you with other medicines, song, music or support. The entire process usually lasts around 20-40 minutes and you will feel well and able to drive afterwards; although we do encourage a rest for a short while first.
